Don't Overlook The Sewer Line

Updated: Jul 26, 2022

The main sewer line is what connects your home’s entire plumbing system, making it arguably the most important plumbing fixture of your home. The homeowner is solely responsible for this sewer line. When the complex parts of your home's plumbing system don't get maintained properly, in addition to various outside elements, can cause the main sewer

line to struggle and eventually become clogged or even fail completely.

Commonly, a lot of home buyers tend to not think about inspecting the home's sewer system when buying a home. After all, living with a properly working sewer system conditions us to think all is good with the drainage system. However, getting a sewer inspection done for a recently purchased home is absolutely essential. And it's not just older homes that should get this done. A lot can happen during the many phases of new construction. Such as a subpar sewer installation or heavy equipment driving over a newly buried sewer line and causing damage.

A damaged sewer line isn’t a pleasant thing to experience – bad odors, leaks, and backups are just a few things that can happen if the pipes are clogged or damaged. Not to mention the cost of repairs, which can cost thousands of dollars. A sewer line inspection can help get ahead of these problems before they become an issue for the homeowner.

What happens during a sewer inspection -

1: The inspector inserts a small camera into the sewer line via sewer clean-out access or the house's sewer vent pipe on the roof. 2: The inside of the sewer line is then monitored with water running as the inspector attempts to reach the city's main sewer line. The video is then saved for later viewing. 3: The sewer line is inspected for large tree roots, debris/blockages, damaged areas, offsets, out of grade areas, etc. that can interfere with proper drainage and flow. 4: A second video is recorded coming out of the sewer line without running water to get a better view of the sewer pipe's condition. This video is also saved. The client will then get a full report of the inspection with videos and pictures.

A sewer inspection is highly recommended to be included with the common home inspection. A sewer inspection can save a potential home buyer thousands of dollars in repairs. Consider getting your home's sewer line inspected by 3D Property Inspections today!
